20 trainees from Omani news and media organisations attended a five day workshop on using Open Sources Intelligence (OSINT) for fact-checking news-gathering and tackling disinformation.
The attendees used OSINT to geolocate sources, validate news, verify pictures and spot doctored videos. At the end on the workshop, attendees were able to plan for creating social media friendly stories which out perform fake news and reach more audiences.
The workshop was led by Ahmed Elsheikh, Eexcutive Director at Mediamise and Vice Chair of the Digital Media Council at the National Union of Journalists in the United Kingdom and Ireland.
